The TH 6.5 sax speaker midbass captures the listener with its sound quality, timbre accuracy and impulsive  response. The X-pulp cone, produced using cellulose pulp and a glass fibre mesh, provides the highest rigidity with the warm and detailed sound typical of cellulose.

Like musical instruments are predestined to the creation of sound, Thesis speakers are designed for music reproduction. Wind, chord, percussion and electrical instruments along with the human voice contribute to the creation of the musical message, complex yet harmonious. In the same way, a system composed by the tweeter violino, the midrange voce, the woofer sax and the subwoofer basso of the Thesis range become an extraordinary harmonious group. A result that goes beyond High Fidelity, a system capable of provoking intense emotions.

Overtaking the intrinsic limits of traditional car audio speakers was the primary goal relating to the esearch for this project. Thanks to the most advanced FEM (Finite Element Modelling) software along with measurement and analysis devices such as Klippel®, a mathematical model was worked out to start the development. This, combined with intense prototype development, was used in search of the ideal transducer. A big magnet and a rigid cone are not sufficient to create strong and detailed sound. Sound is generated by the alchemy of elements that cannot be seen, from the pulsing heart of the speaker.

The high precision mechanical parts were created by machining solid one piece material, including a REN (Rare Earth Neodymium) magnet. The single layer, flat wire, edge wound voice coil enhances the compact size and light weight of the mobile group while still maintaining unmatched thermal dissipation.

The anti-resonant die cast alloy basket, the aerodynamic profile of the spokes, together with the "open-air" design drastically reduce back wave reflections. The zinc alloy grille protects without altering the acoustic performance.

The new Esotec MD 102 tweeter is a soft-dome design as characteristic of Dynaudio. The fine soft dome features a special coating to facilitate an extended high frequency response free of distortion. The compact, shallow depth MD 102 tweeter features a 28 mm (1.1 inch) diameter surface area that is approximately 60% greater than that of conventional car audio tweeters. The optimized dome geometry provides greatly improved dispersion characteristics, enabling the MD 102 tweeter to offer exceptional performance even when mounted off of the listening axis. The dome coating serves to eliminate any high frequency break-ups, while providing improved damping. To eliminate high frequency distortions caused by reflections from inside the structure, the MD 102 tweeter rear chamber is also sealed and acoustically damped to eliminate high frequency distortion, which could be caused by backwave reflections, while ferrofluid cooling adds damping and additional power handling.

The extremely smooth and incredibly detailed high frequency reproduction characteristic of the Dynaudio sound is ensured by the all-new Esotec soft-dome tweeter, which featuresthe latest Dynaudio technological innovations. For the most authentic high-frequency reproduction – powerful Neodymium – one of the most efficient but also most expensive magnetic materials for loudspeaker construction is used in the tweeter magnet systems.
The soft-dome tweeter design topology allows unrestricted dynamics and a linear frequency response with extremely low distortion. The MD 102 features an aluminum voice coil, another Dynaudio hallmark, which has been updated and improved via an increased coil height with additional windings to allow an increased range of linear excursion within the magnetic field. Furthermore, as a result of the low moving mass of the new voice coil, a higher maximum output level and increased dynamics are achieved, while the frequency range has been expanded, thus allowing a better integration with the upper midrange frequencies to deliver a more natural sound with an open and detailed, and incredibly transparent reproduction of the high frequencies.

The most compact of the new Esotec car series mid/woofers, the new MW 152 is a compact 15 cm (5.75 inch) diameter driver with a 75 mm (3 inch) diameter voice coil. As is the case with the full range of Dynaudio woofers, the cone diaphragm is composed of a proprietary MSP (magnesium silicate polymer) material developed by Dynaudio – a low-distortion material characterized by a lack of coloration that proves essential to the unique Dynaudio sound. The woofer motor assemblies of the Esotec mid/woofers are built into torsionally rigid die-cast aluminium baskets (a high strength stamped steel basket is utilized on the MW 162 GT and MW 182 model variants), which have been optimized to eliminate air turbulence and resonance and the adverse effects of such. The aerodynamically shaped ribs of the Dynaudio die cast driver frames serve to eliminate virtually all reflections and tonal aberrations created by the traditional driver frame, and ensure the highest degree of mechanical performance at an extremely low weight.

The low suspension compliance of the MW 152 makes it perfectly suited for smaller enclosures typical of most in-car installations, while also allowing it to be utilized without a dedicated enclosure in free-air mounting applications.

The new Esotec X 252 crossover is a competition grade, audiophile quality passive two-way crossover designed to accommodate four of the new Esotec woofers, the MW 152, MW 162, MW 162 GT and MW 172 models in combination with the Esotec MD 102 tweeter.

The X 252 Crossover is also included in three packaged Esotec two-way component systems, and features a three-position tweeter level control to better adjust the high frequency performance to listener position or preference. The 96kHz Sampling D/A converter in the HX-D3 samples at twice the usual 44.1kHz to offer reproduction frequencies as high as 48kHz (half the sampling frequency of 96kHz), surpassing the format specifications for CD as the fi rst such D/A Converter for car audio use. By broadening the sampling range, it becomes possible to reproduce the subtle nuances and depth contained in harmonic elements while reducing phase distortion in the high frequency range, delivering the full expressiveness and natural ambience that is inherently present in sound.

Constructed with only the highest quality components – from the chassis to the wiring – the HX-D3’s external power supply is the heart of this audiophile-grade main unit. With its six-sided shielded casing, this design rejects noise, even during high load bursts. To prevent any vibration, Clarion encases this high quality power supply in an aluminum die cast housing. The HXD3’s power supply utilizes toroidal choke coils which minimise electrical noise and a large-capacity, low-impedance condenser, which allows this external component to supply pure power. With an output of +15V and -15V of pure, clean, fi ltered power, the HX-D3 source unit can achieve detail and transparency like no other.

Taking control over your audio system means being able to fine tune everything, right down to the playback level. Equipped with a Burr Brown 0.5dB/Step Zero-Crossing volume control IC, the HX-D3 offers extremely detailed and accurate level adjustment.

The Zero-Crossing circuitry ensures silent operation that is free from zipper and stepping noise that is common to lesser volume control circuits. This is as close as it gets to analog, but with the reliability of digital control.

The HX-D3 features a copper plated chassis to minimize the effect of electromagnetic noise which can adversely affect components that have a direct bearing on the playback signal. Incorporating a zinc diecast front panel with a high density, low resonance structure, sound colouration due to vibration is reduced. Electrically noisy components such as the power supply, Vacuum Fluorescent devices for the display and the drive mechanism are located away from the main circuit board to reduce the potential for noise to be added to the signal.

Time Alignment allows you to adjust the relative arrival time of each of the 8 outputs of the HX-D3. Each output can be configured for a delay of up to 512.4cm or 14.92mSec in steps of 0.7cm or 0.02mSec for the utmost of detail and accuracy. Properly adjusting the arrival time of each speaker not only helps to create a stunningly realistic soundstage, but helps smooth frequency response and improve system dynamics and impact.

This cone structure features a thermoformed, structural foam central core, coated with an Aramid fiber layer on the front side and a glass layer directly derived from the Utopia series, on the back side. This hybrid technology significantly improves membrane rigidity without raising the weight. Long coil, distortion free even at high level.
Car Audio CrossoverK2 Power crossovers are equipped with the leading performance audiophile components, therefore following Focal’s long standing high  standards. The Polypropylene capacitors provide very high definition  alongside the air core inductors which offer great dynamics. For optimal  integration, KP series kits are equipped with a tweeter level control  switch (0/-3dB, -6dB per action) and midrange position matching.
TNK & TN53K TweetersThe aramid fiber flexibility combined with the resin hardness are at the source of the excellent rendering of this new tweeter generation. The  soundstage is very precise thanks to the directivity controlled by the TN53K partial horn loading. The magnet ring structure brings an important magnetic flow in the air gap that ensures an optimal control of the voice coil. The inverted dome is slightly deepened to reduce directivity and accentuate the link between the cone and the voice coil.

Car Audio power amplifiers are classified primarily by the design of the output stage. Classification is based on the amount of time the output devices operate during each cycle of signal swing. Also defined in terms of output bias current, (the amount of current flowing in the output devices with no signal).

Class A Power Amplifier
Class A car audio power amplifier operation is where both devices conduct continuously for the entire cycle of signal swing, or the bias current flows in the output devices at all times. The key ingredient of class A operation is that both devices are always on. There is no condition where one or the other is turned off. Because of this, class A car audio amplifiers are single-ended designs with only one type polarity output devices. Class A is the most inefficient of all power amplifier designs, averaging only around 20%. Because of this, class A amplifiers are large, heavy and run very hot. All this is due to the amplifier constantly operating at full power.The positive effect of all this is that class A designs are inherently the most linear, with the least amount of distortion.

Class B car audio power amplifier operation is the opposite of class A. Both output devices are never allowed to be on at the same time, or the bias is set so that current flow in a specific output device is zero when not stimulated with an input signal, i.e., the current in a specific output flows for one half cycle. Thus each output device is on for exactly one half of a complete sinusoidal signal cycle. Due to this operation, class B designs show high efficiency but poor linearity around the crossover region. This is due to the time it takes to turn one device off and the other device on, which translates into extreme crossover distortion. Thus restricting class B designs to power consumption critical applications, e.g., battery operated equipment, such as 2-way radio and other communications audio.

Class AB Power AmplifierClass AB car audio power amplifier operation allows both devices to be on at the same time (like in class A), but just barely. The output bias is set so that current flows in a specific output device appreciably more than a half cycle but less than the entire cycle. That is, only a small amount of current is allowed to flow through both devices, unlike the complete load current of class A designs, but enough to keep each device operating so they respond instantly to input voltage demands. Thus the inherent non-linearity of class B designs is eliminated, without the gross inefficiencies of the class A design. It is this combination of good efficiency (around 50%) with excellent linearity that makes class AB the most popular audio amplifier design.

Class AB plus B car audio power amplifer design involves two pairs of output devices: one pair operates class AB while the other (slave) pair operates class B.

Class D Power AmplifierClass D operation is switching, hence the term switching power amplifier. Here the output devices are rapidly switched on and off at least twice for each cycle. Since the output devices are either completely on or completely off they do not theoretically dissipate any power. Consequently class D operation is theoretically 100% efficient, but this requires zero on-impedance switches with infinitely fast switching times -- a product we're still waiting for; meanwhile designs do exist with true efficiencies approaching 90%.

Class GH Power AmplifierClass G operation involves changing the power supply voltage from a lower level to a higher level when larger output swings are required. There have been several ways to do this. The simplest involves a single class AB output stage that is connected to two power supply rails by a diode, or a transistor switch. The design is such that for most musical program material, the output stage is connected to the lower supply voltage, and automatically switches to the higher rails for large signal peaks. Another approach uses two class AB output stages, each connected to a different power supply voltage, with the magnitude of the input signal determining the signal path. Using two power supplies improves efficiency enough to allow significantly more power for a given size and weight. Class G is becoming common for pro audio designs.

Class H operation takes the class G design one step further and actually modulates the higher power supply voltage by the input signal. This allows the power supply to track the audio input and provide just enough voltage for optimum operation of the output devices. The efficiency of class H is comparable to class G designs.
